I will try to answer this soon myself, but want other's thoughts as well. How much did Hell scare me into becoming a Christian? Also, how much should Hell be used for the purposes of Evangelism? (I realize it's a means-to-an-end question, so other angles of focus might be beneficiary)
Here's my problem with Hell being used in the church as a means of salvation: Jesus should be enough for the faith of his followers to be comforted in their being saved. We don't need Hell. Or, maybe a better way to say that would be, we don't need to focus on Hell. I don't believe that salvation by fear will lead to a life of faithful service. I think it's the reason we have so many people that "accept" Christ, only to turn away from them once the newness wears off.
Sweet! Let the discussion begin!
